Our Groups

Nemos 3yr olds

The Nemo year is about building friendships, having fun and learning basic language and numeracy skills through arts and play.

Pearls 4yr olds

The Pearl year is about developing our friendship and language skills through play and guided activities. We are more advanced with our motor-skills and begin to refine these through various types of arts, crafts and movements.

Crocodiles 5yr olds

The Crocodile year is when we begin to put more difficult concepts together, such as reading, writing and numeracy. We learn how to play independently as well as in small and large groups, whilst all the time building our friendships, self-confidence and helpfulness towards others.

Sharks 6yr olds (pre-schoolers)

We are an accredited part of the Helsinki city pre-school system.

The Pre-school year is about gradually becoming more independent, self-confident and learning to be an effective learner. When it is time to go off to “big kid” school, the most important things we can take with us are knowing how to learn, being able to take care of our own things and being confident to try new things and make new friends.

Circle Time

Circle Time for us is a time when children come together to sing songs, dance and prepare themselves for the day ahead. During Circle Time, we learn about the days of the week, months, seasons, the weather and introduce our theme. Circle Time is important for developing language skills.

Goals and Themes

We have divided our curriculum into seven areas which provide the framework for the activities and experiences we cover. The areas are:

1. Personal, social and emotional development

2. Communication and language

3. Literacy

4. Mathematical development

5. Understanding the world

6. Physical development

7. Expressive arts and design

We explore these areas through our integrated themes. During the year, we have some set themes such as seasons and holiday celebrations, however, most of our other themes are selected based on the children’s interests.

Parents as Partners

Parents are important to us; you know your children best and your thoughts are valued. When we work together in the early years, the results have a positive impact on the child’s development and learning. We seek to develop an effective partnership with parents; in order to do this we need a two-way flow of information, knowledge and expertise.
